It has a 5 speed manual transmission, and would drive for hours on end, at 80 miles an hour on 38 miles to the gallon of diesel fuel. The headliner is perfect as are the sun visors. Starts very easily, idles smoothly accelerates well. Not a very reliable car, something seemed to go wrong every few weeks. I worked with both Autocheck and Carfax and got the error corrected.
Mechanically the car is strong. We then had the transmission replaced with a used one that had only 20,000 miles on it. Have had quite a lot of trouble with front wheel bearings. The original floor mats do show some wear but suprisingly nice. The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history.

General Comments: Lacks power on acceleration, but powers along once you get going. The mass air flow sensor had to be replaced, which is not cheap. The body is very straight and clean with a few blemishes:1 on the roof above the right door where the original owners had a Thule rack mounted2 maybe 3 very small dimples from door dings 1 small area at the bottom front edge of the left front bumperMost recently when going through a car wash, the left drip rail molding was damaged so I removed it. Lots of room; very comfortable. It wasn't rusty but a seam on the muffler was separating and the tech felt it would be best to replace everything behind the cat so I did.
Condition: Used: A vehicle is considered used if it has been registered and issued a title. The one thing I will definitely say is the is an original unmolested example of a vintage 80's top of the line Mazda and I believe it would make any Mazda lover happy. Faults: The alloy head cracked due to straining the engine when cold, had to replace it. Contrast this situation to a year ago when Mazda printed 1. Unfortunately I wasn't aware of that when I bought mine. I have the 2 pieces and believe it can be repaired or a replacement found although these cars are quire rare. Right hand rear shock absorber has worn extremely.
The automaker is more dependent on exports from Japan than other automakers based in that country, and as a result, it has long suffered at the hands of a strong yen. The carpet show little if any wear. While not a show car, this car gets many, many looks and people are amazed by its age. From Eastern Indiana, to Western Montana and Idaho. A seal in the new transmission had to be replaced 1,000 miles later. Yes Review Date: 7th May, 2005 Faults: Transmission was gone when I got it replaced with one out of an 84. Front disc brake discs where warped when we purchased it, have had planing twice.
When the car was new, it had the Electronically Adjustable Sports Suspension which is why the original owners sold the car. I have tried to be as forthcoming and complete as I can be but remember, this is a 35 year old car. General Comments: This car is a good cheap car with unreal fuel economy. I drove in 100 degree heat, and -34 degrees of no heat in Northern Minnesota , and it always performed the same. When the car was new, it had the Electronically Adjustable Sports Suspension which is why the original owners sold the car. No warranties are implies or express in any manner. If you can afford it I recommend it.
Yes Review Date: 21st January, 2005 Faults: This little coupe has taken a real hammering from my nephew and it never skipped a beat. But burns a little gas. Luckily there was no traffic around and I was able to shut it off with the key. Ball joint and brakes replaced. The only reason I purchased them is that, if I wanted to do maintenance, I wouldn't have to wait for spare to arrive. The rear cargo area is equally impressive. Ward's 10 Best Interiors being one of them.
Don't Know Review Date: 14th July, 2002 Run from this car. Recently having problems with cooling system pressure. But I needed the money to finance my trip to Japan. I am renting a Mazda 323F and it works great. The original floor mats do show some wear but suprisingly nice. The cassette sadly does not work.
