Eventually, she relents but immediately regrets her decision and, in a panic, goes to the venue with Matthew to see if she can sneak into the concert in order to keep tabs on Richie. Fearing that Ritchie is too young to be exposed to sex, drugs and rock and roll vices on display at a Rolling Stones concert, Christine initially forbids it. Meanwhile, Matthew and Richard try to evict an elderly woman Marion Ross from her apartment so they can rent it. Will she or won't she? Richard still spends a lot of time at Christine's house even when he becomes involved in a relationship with a younger woman who is also named Christine. Despite the couple being divorced they have a very friendly relationship. Christine mistakes a good looking cop for a stripper, who alerts her that there is a prowler in the neighborhood. It's unclear whether the show will satirize Democrats or Republicans specifically or just the political landscape in general, but hijinks will certainly ensue.
The show is pure comedy although it does touch lightly on a few issues which are relevant to single parents and working mothers. Meanwhile, Matthew finds Christine's wedding video in a box of old photo albums, and Christine takes a trip down memory lane. On top of all this she has just discovered her ex-husband, Richard has started dating a much younger woman who is also named Christine. She shares ownership with her best friend Barb, played by Wanda Sykes. They both do everything they can to avoid their mom whenever she calls.

After a series of unsuccessful dates, she finds the possibility of love in the strangest of places. In order to feel more secure, Christine asks Matthew to stay over. When Christine mentions this to Richard, his cryptic reaction leads her to question whether it was in the counselor's best interest to encourage their divorce. In the season finale Christine kisses Richard so New Christine breaks up with him. In this season Christine has only just enrolled her son, Richie at a new posh private school, where she is constantly being humiliated by Marly and Lindsay, some non-working mothers at the school. Meanwhile, Matthew and Richard find an apartment that they want to rent together.
After several failed attempts to meet eligible men, she finally runs into a guy named Stan at the grocery store. Meanwhile, Matthew takes Richie to swimming lessons. Belinda's job, however, isn't quite the type of position Christine expected her to hold, which throws yet another wrinkle in her attempt to fit in with the other school parents. These two women also have more money than Christine and often flaunt it by making comments about Christine's poor lifestyle. Matthew and Christine have a somewhat dysfunctional relationship which stems from the way they were brought up. Note: For this episode, won the. Meanwhile, New Christine goes into labor, with the sole goal of avoiding having the baby arrive on Old Christine's birthday. Unfortunately, they will have to find a way to evict an old lady that lives there before they can move in. The show revolves around the situations old Christine needs to deal with in her life, some of which involve dating as a single mom and developing confidence in who she is and the choices she makes in her life. Christine's often needy personality often contrasts with the more self-assured personality of Richard's new girlfriend, whom they sometimes refer to as new Christine. . .
